A firewall protects your computer against unwanted guests from the Internet. But who protects your private data from being sent out? Little Snitch does!
Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts. This reliably prevents private data from being sent out without your knowledge. Little Snitch for Mac runs inconspicuously in the background and it can also detect network related activity of viruses, trojans and other malware.
Features and Highlights
Silent Mode – Decide Later
There are times where you don’t want to get interrupted by any network related notifications. With Silent Mode you can quickly choose to silence all connection warnings for a while. You can then later review the Silent Mode Log to define permanent rules for connection attempts that occurred during that time.
Research Assistant
Have you ever wondered why a process you’ve never heard of before suddenly wants to connect to some server on the Internet? The Research Assistant helps you to find the answer. It only takes one click on the research button to anonymously request additional information for the current connection from the Research Assistant Database.
Automatic Profile Switching
Rules can be arranged in different profiles like “Home”, “Office” or “Mobile Internet”. This allows you to use different sets of filter rules depending on the network you are currently connected to. Profiles can be activated either manually from the status menu, or automatically, whenever you join a network that’s associated with one of your profiles.

One of the first lessons that most people learn in grade school is, 'nobody likes a tattletale.' But some people never get this idea through their heads and, eventually, these little snitches grow up and join the workforce.

Trust is a key component of any successful company or team and it only takes one problem employee to spoil the atmosphere. It naturally leads to decreased productivity over time and snitching is bad for employee morale and camaraderie. Who wants to be friendly with people that might stab you in the back? Besides helping to create a dysfunctional workplace, snitches can also lead to increased employee turnover which then costs the business time and money to recruit new hires.

The snitch is generally between 30 and 45 years old and never grew up emotionally. Integrity is foreign to them. It's often common knowledge that this person is a snitch and can't be trusted. Nobody really likes them - not even their bosses - because nobody likes a snitch. They think they are the boss's pet but really their boss is just using them to do their dirty work. Apart from the fact that they are great informants, they are also willing to act as messengers.

Snitches tend to be very social because that's where they score the juicy gossip to pass on to their boss. They know how to stir up conversations to elicit reactions. They keep great mental tabs on the information they pick up and use it to score points with their bosses. Typically they struggle with having real relationships or are the type of people who always need approval. Perhaps they didn't get that at home so now they're trying to get it from their boss?

The snitch is often immature and sometimes insecure about their own competencies. Why else would they indulge in this type of behavior? They are mainly motivated by personal gain and may get some scraps in order to keep fulfilling their role but they'll never make it to the top because their bosses can't stand them either.

When it comes to dealing with snitches, be very careful with what you say around them. Or, give them a taste of their own medicine by feeding them false information which makes them look like fools when they tell their bosses. Other than that, just know that what goes around generally comes around.

Bosses who recruit and retain snitches tend to be weak and out of touch with their business. Why would a secure, confident and knowledgeable boss need someone to snoop around and do their dirty work for them? And why would they give so much credibility to someone who is so willing to turn against their colleagues? Employees will soon find out who is encouraging this behavior and who the snitches are. At that point, trust erodes and the workplace can become toxic.

The bottom line is be careful what you say and who you say it to. The snitch may bait you by complaining about something or someone but as soon as you agree, they'll be running to their boss with the latest scoop. Choose your workplace friends carefully; do your job and don't socialize after work with a snitch because over drinks in a casual environment is where they do their best work when you let your guard down.
