  • Hi Phil & friends,

We’ve been hearing about Traktor support advising people to downgrade to 2.6.8, a version that’s now nearly 2 years old! Even S8 & S5 owners get this advice, while those devices aren’t even supported. I find it absurd that NI is well aware of this issue, and still doesn’t seem willing to address it. It seems ridiculous to keep on talking about Stems (I invested in gear and stems) if we’re not able to use the software that supports them.

I was wondering if Digital DJ Tips, possibly in coordination with DJTT, and/or other respected DigitalDJ blogs has insights, or are willing to gain insights (maybe a questionaire, or a simple twitter/facebook poll) about exactly how many people have had to downgrade to 2.6.8. Maybe if Digital DJ’s join forces and demand a fix, NI would be more inclined to act?

Good question and a pity of course. Especially if you shelled out lots of bucks for a nice S8 only to be able to use it as a regular controller. You might want to put your question directly to the team at @digitaldjtips.com'>info@digitaldjtips.com.

    Hi,

Can elaborate on this? Why is the issue that is causing NI to advise downgrading to 2.6.8? I’m using 2.10.0.13

    Thanks!

Good thing you are not the OP, Tom. Or I’d have locked the post.

Still, last warning here! Posting guidelines prohibited bumping of posts.

Hey Mark Has this been officially announced by Traktor? Just asking becuase it seems odd they’d recommend reverting that far back.

On the flipside maybe the people misheard or didn’t understand? Just doesn’t make sense.

With DJ software becoming more and more complex AND operating systems going the same route, it isn’t really a miracle that the amount of inexplicable errors or undocumented features if you like would increase.

While new OSX versions are also no longer guaranteed trouble free (see earlier problems between Serato and El Capitan), it would be easier to reproduce and consequently fix on the Mac platform. After all, OSX really only runs on a hand full of machines, part of which have overlapping specs.
Windows machines on the other hand … a matrix of infinite possibilities and manufacturers are in this mix. Drivers seem to be a bigger problem on Windows than they are on a Mac as well.

All in all, it’s higher grade solutions on higher grade hardware/OS combinations. A serious risk I guess.

While it’s human nature to want the newest and latest, I’d advise NOT to upgrade to a newer version until it has been in use for a couple of months at least. This gives room for problems to surface and be reported on the relevant forums and support pages.
Especially if your DJ Software is mission-critical (i.e. you are making money with it!), I’d only upgrade if the upgrade fixes a problem I was experiencing and/or if it has some features I really feel I can’t live without.

Here too the old adagio “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” seems to hold true.

I couldn’t upgrade my Traktor as I’m still using Snow Leopard which I find stable. I have to use stems etc on my Windows partition but have never used it yet.

Why are people being advised to downgrade? What problems have there been?
